The family she grew up with was Catholic and she was raised in the Upper East Side in Manhattan. As a result, her parents enrolled the Convent of the Sacred Heart which is a revered religious institution. From the time she was a child, she has been an avid music fan. She learned how to play the piano from a young age and wrote her first solo song at the age of thirteen. She participated in an open mic nights.
